HD Hyundai Heavy Industries

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, part of HD Hyundai via HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, is a shipbuilder headquartered in Ulsan, South Korea. Its Engine & Machinery division (HHI-EMD) is regarded as the world's largest builder of low-speed two-stroke engines by volume, mainly supplying HD Hyundai group shipyards.

The division builds the full Everllence B&W range under licence, including ME-C, ME-GI, ME-LGIM, ME-LGIP and ammonia-fuelled ME-LGIA engines, and hosted the first ME-LGIA factory acceptance test in 2026. It is also a WinGD licensee. Its own-design HiMSEN medium-speed engines are the leading marine auxiliary genset brand by volume and are offered for diesel, LNG, methanol and, with the H32CDF-LA and H22CDF-LA, high-pressure ammonia direct injection; the H22CDF-LA completed class approval testing witnessed by seven classification societies.

HHI also manufactures large fixed-pitch propellers and fuel gas supply systems (Hi-GAS) for LNG dual-fuel engines, and supplies ammonia fuel supply and leak-safety systems. In 2026 it christened the 46,000 m3 gas carriers Antwerpen and Arlon for Exmar, which it describes as the world's first ammonia-powered vessels.
