Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine (HZME)

Hitachi Zosen Marine Engine Co., Ltd. (HZME) is a Japanese builder of low-speed two-stroke marine engines headquartered at Ariake in Nagasu-machi, Kumamoto prefecture. It was established in November 2022 and began operations in April 2023, when Hitachi Zosen (renamed Kanadevia in October 2024) spun off its marine engine business with investment from Imabari Shipbuilding. The company outline lists Kanadevia with 65% and Imabari with 35%; Imabari has agreed to raise its stake to 60%, making HZME an equity-method affiliate of Kanadevia.

HZME designs, manufactures and services low-speed diesel engines under licence from Everllence (B&W, formerly MAN) and WinGD, including engines able to run on low- and zero-carbon fuels. It has an annual capacity of about 70 low-speed engines and supplies mainly Japanese shipyards, notably Imabari. Sales and service offices are located in Osaka, Tokyo, Singapore and Taiwan.
