PowerCell Group

PowerCell Group is a Swedish developer and manufacturer of hydrogen PEM fuel cell stacks and systems, based in Gothenburg. Its marine fuel cell systems run on hydrogen and are described as fuel-flexible, compatible with hydrogen reformed from renewable fuels.

For shipping, PowerCell offers the Marine System 225, a compact fuel cell system with 225 kW net output. It measures 1.2 x 0.9 x 2.0 m and weighs 1,145 kg, and is sized to fit standard containers. The system has Lloyd's Register and RINA type approvals and an external electrical cabinet for easier service. Several units can be combined into multi-megawatt installations.

PowerCell's recent marine contracts include one from October 2025 to supply fuel cells for what were reported as the world's first hydrogen-powered bulk carriers. In June 2026 it received a 4 MW Marine System 225 order from LH2 Shipping, valued at about SEK 50 million. Its systems target cargo ships, bulk carriers, ferries and offshore vessels that need zero-emission onboard power.
