Vard Electro

Vard Electro is the in-house electrical and automation system integrator of VARD, the Ålesund-based shipbuilding group owned by Fincantieri. Established in 1997, it designs, procures and installs marine electrical systems for VARD newbuilds and for external shipowners. Its customers include offshore vessels, expedition cruise ships, fishing and aquaculture vessels and wind service vessels. VARD itself has delivered about 950 vessels.

Since 2013 Vard Electro has sold its products under the SeaQ brand, which has four groups. SeaQ Power covers energy storage systems, microgrid, switchgear and shore connection. SeaQ Control covers the integrated automation system, power management system, the Green Pilot energy advisory tool, Smart Cabin and HVAC. The other two are SeaQ Bridge and Navigation and SeaQ Remote and Communication. The company also supplies DC switchboards, power distribution and HVAC-R systems.

For hybrid and diesel-electric vessels, SeaQ Energy Storage Systems are sized to each vessel's operating profile. They provide zero-emission harbour operation, peak shaving, spinning reserve and ride-through, and are offered for newbuilds and retrofits. Vard Electro has installed these systems on vessels such as those of Mokster Shipping.
