WISAMO wing sail
Automated inflatable wingsail on a self-supporting telescopic mast; S-WING 170 m², fully retractable; DNV AiP.
The WISAMO wingsail is an inflatable wing on a multi-section telescopic mast. It hoists, reefs and lowers automatically and retracts fully for port operations or air-draught limits. The S-WING has 170 m² of area, a 9.3 m width and 24.6 m height above the nest, with about 3 m height when lowered. It received a DNV Approval in Principle in 2023 after trials of a 100 m² unit on the ro-ro MN Pelican. A 170 m² sail is to be fitted to a French government patrol vessel, targeting about 15% fuel savings.
