PBCF (Propeller Boss Cap Fins)
Finned propeller cap that breaks up the hub vortex; about 3–5% fuel/CO2 saving claimed, over 4,500 ships fitted, retrofittable.
PBCF replaces the propeller's hub cap with a cap carrying fins that eliminate the hub vortex and add a little thrust. MOL Techno-Trade quotes about 3–5% lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions and about 5 dB less underwater noise at 100–1,000 Hz. The device is maintenance-free and can be retrofitted. The Improved PBCF, introduced in May 2017, uses refined fin geometry for modern high-efficiency propellers.
