Seawing is an automated kite system that is launched from a mast at the bow and flies a parafoil in dynamic figure-of-eight patterns to generate towing force. The phase-one 300 m² kite, completed in 2025, gives a theoretical pull of about 25 tonnes. The phase-two 600 m² kite is designed for about 50 tonnes. Bureau Veritas reviewed the performance methodology, and sea trials on a K Line bulk carrier are planned through about 2027. Earlier claims cite CO2 savings of up to about 20%.
