Amogy

Amogy is a Brooklyn, New York-based technology company developing systems that convert ammonia into electricity. Its proprietary process cracks ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen using in-house catalysts, purifies the hydrogen and converts it to power through integrated fuel cells or hydrogen engines.

The company markets its technology as AMMDrive power systems, offered in a fuel-cell arrangement (AD1000-FC) and a genset arrangement (AD1000-E), and also supplies cracking catalysts as a separate product line. Target markets include maritime, distributed and stationary power generation, data centers and heavy industry.

In marine propulsion, Amogy demonstrated its technology on the tugboat NH3 Kraken, which the company describes as the world's first ammonia-powered vessel. It positions ammonia-to-power for hybrid and electric propulsion and auxiliary power on container ships, tankers, general cargo and offshore vessels, citing ammonia's higher energy density compared with lithium batteries and zero carbon emissions at the point of use. The company says its catalysts deliver up to 70% more efficient ammonia cracking. In recent years Amogy has increasingly also targeted stationary and data-center power.
