Anemoi Marine Technologies

Anemoi Marine Technologies is a London-based developer and supplier of wind-assisted propulsion, incorporated in 2015. The company specialises in Flettner rotor sails, rotating cylinders that use the Magnus effect to produce thrust, and says its systems cut fuel consumption and emissions by 5-30% per vessel.

Anemoi's rotors combine a lightweight composite rotating cylinder with a steel tower and are offered in a range of standard sizes for newbuilds and retrofits. A key feature is the choice of deployment systems: fixed foundations, a patented rail system that lets rotors move across or along the deck to clear cargo operations, and a hydraulic folding system that lowers rotors to horizontal for air-draft restrictions. Anemoi demonstrated its first full-scale folding installation in the UK in 2014.

Installations include Newcastlemax, Valemax, VLOC, Kamsarmax and Ultramax bulk carriers such as Berge Mulhacen, Sohar Max and Afros, as well as tanker projects with Union Maritime and ore carriers for Vale. The company has also partnered with Maersk to bring rotor sails to container shipping. Partners include Wärtsilä and major classification societies.
