Atomflot

Atomflot (FSUE Atomflot, also styled Rosatomflot) is a federal state unitary enterprise owned by Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom and headquartered in Murmansk. It operates the world's only civil fleet of nuclear-powered icebreakers, providing ice escort and navigation support for shipping on the Northern Sea Route.

The fleet includes older Arktika-class and Taymyr-class icebreakers and the new Project 22220 universal icebreakers, the most powerful icebreakers built, each driven by two RITM-200 pressurised water reactors and rated at about 60 MW of propulsion power. Arktika, Sibir, Ural and Yakutiya are in service, with further units such as Chukotka, Leningrad and Stalingrad under construction for delivery between 2027 and 2030.

Beyond icebreaking, the company handles Arctic cargo support, nuclear fuel and radioactive waste management and radiation monitoring, and runs tourist cruises. Atomflot is a fleet operator and integrator rather than a reactor or ship manufacturer. It is subject to sanctions by several countries (Canada sanctioned it in August 2023), which restricts commercial dealings with Western suppliers.
