BWX Technologies

BWX Technologies (BWXT) is a publicly traded US nuclear company headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia. Its core marine role is as the manufacturer of naval nuclear reactors and reactor components for the US Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BWXT says it has produced more than 350 naval reactors and components since the 1950s, when it designed and fabricated components for USS Nautilus.

BWXT reactors power Ohio-, Virginia-, Seawolf- and Los Angeles-class submarines and the Columbia-class boats under construction, and the company supports Nimitz- and Ford-class aircraft carriers. Naval work is spread across several US sites: Lynchburg, Virginia (naval reactors), Barberton, Ohio (heavy reactor plant components), Euclid, Ohio (electro-mechanical components), Mount Vernon, Indiana (heavy components) and Erwin, Tennessee (uranium fuel production).

Beyond naval propulsion, BWXT supplies commercial nuclear steam generators, nuclear fuel, medical isotopes and site-management services, and it develops advanced reactors such as the BWXT Advanced Nuclear Reactor (BANR) and the Project Pele transportable microreactor. For floating nuclear power, the BWXT mPower small modular reactor design has been assessed by CORE POWER.
