CATL

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) is a battery manufacturer headquartered in Ningde, Fujian, China, and is described in trade sources as the world's largest producer of lithium-ion batteries. Its marine business is run through Contemporary Amperex Electric Vessel Co., Ltd. (CAEV), which supplies battery systems and energy management systems for electric and hybrid vessels.

CATL has been active in electric vessels since 2017 and launched its first electric ship in 2019. The company says it had delivered nearly 900 electric ships by December 2025, which makes it the leading supplier to China's electric inland and coastal fleet. Reference vessels include the all-electric inland passenger ship Changjiangsanxia 1, the sea-going passenger ship Yujian 77, the hybrid tug Qinggang Tug 1, and the battery-swapping cargo ship Jining 6006.

In December 2025 CATL presented a 'ship-shore-cloud' offering. It combines battery systems, containerised swappable batteries under a 'separation of ship and battery' model, the Yunfan cloud management platform and the Beichen intelligent navigation system. According to the company, its marine battery hardware and software hold certificates from the five major classification societies.
