Cummins

Cummins Inc., headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, is one of the largest independent manufacturers of diesel and alternative-fuel engines. Its marine business, Cummins Marine, supplies high-speed propulsion and auxiliary engines for commercial workboats, tugs, fishing vessels, ferries, government vessels and recreational craft.

The propulsion range covers about 216 kW to 3,132 kW. It includes the in-line six-cylinder QSL9, QSC8.3, QSM11 and X15 for mid-size workboats and yachts, the mechanical V12 VTA28, and the heavy-duty QSK19, QSK38 and QSK50. At the top are the V16 QSK60 and QSK95. Cummins calls the 95-litre QSK95, rated 3,200–4,200 hp, the most powerful high-speed engine ever built for marine vessels, and positions it as an alternative to medium-speed engines in tugs, ferries and offshore vessels. The QSK38 and QSK60 are also offered in EPA Tier 4/IMO III versions.

In recent years Cummins has brought the on-highway X15 into marine service. Alongside its diesel range it offers marine gensets and works on hybrid and alternative-fuel solutions.
