Echandia

Echandia is a Swedish maritime battery company headquartered in Bromma, Stockholm, with a North American office in Marysville, Washington. It specialises in lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) energy storage systems based on Toshiba cells. These are designed for heavy-duty duty cycles that need fast charging and many cycles per day, with minimal degradation.

The product range has three air-cooled LTO systems plus a battery management system. Echandia Ultra targets very high-cycle operations, rated for 150,000 cycles at 70% depth of discharge. Echandia Robust is built for shock, vibration and military use, and the company says NATO has selected it. Echandia Core, launched in June 2026, supports up to 1,500 V and 3C rates. The company says Core costs about 30% less and takes about 30% less footprint than its previous system.

Echandia has worked with shipyards and integrators such as ABB and Siemens to electrify ferries, tugs, navy vessels and transport vessels. Its systems suit short-haul ferries, harbour craft and naval platforms where high power and long life matter more than energy density.
