Leclanché

Leclanché SA is a Swiss manufacturer of lithium-ion cells and energy storage systems, headquartered in Yverdon-les-Bains, with a marine unit also based in Lysaker, Norway. The company refers to more than 100 years of battery heritage. It manufactures its own cells and works in three segments: stationary storage, e-transport and special battery systems.

In marine, Leclanché supplies the Navius marine rack system (MRS) for ferries, cruise ships and workboats. The current Navius MRS-3 builds on the MRS-2. It is liquid-cooled, operates at up to 1,200 V DC and uses 65 Ah G/NMC or 72 Ah G/NMCA cells, with a functionally safe battery management system. Marine references include hybrid ferry batteries for Caledonian Maritime Assets in Scotland and a 4 MWh cruise ship installation.

The company is in financial difficulty. In February 2026 it reported short-term liquidity constraints that had delayed payments, including January salaries. Trading of its shares on SIX Swiss Exchange was suspended from 1 June 2026 pending publication of its 2025 annual report.
