Norsepower

Norsepower is a Finnish wind-assisted propulsion company headquartered in Helsinki, which has been bringing sails back to shipping since 2012. It is a pioneer of the modern rotor sail and reports more than 100,000 hours of third-party verified performance data.

The Norsepower Rotor Sail is a push-button, automated Flettner rotor available in five sizes from 20 x 4 m to 35 x 5 m. The company says it typically delivers 5-25% fuel savings and emission reductions, and more in good wind conditions. The Norsepower Tilting Foundation, sold since 2020, lets rotors be lowered to horizontal where air draft is limited, and the AI-based Norsepower Sentient Control, launched in 2024, is claimed to improve system performance by a further 10-20%.

Norsepower has a parent company in Finland and wholly owned subsidiaries in China and Hong Kong, and operates its own dedicated rotor sail factory in Dafeng, China, opened in October 2024. As of Q1 2026 it reported 45 rotor sails installed on 25 ships, with 39 more units ordered for 16 ships, across tankers, bulkers, RoRos, ferries, cruise ships and container ships.
