OKBM Afrikantov

OKBM Afrikantov (Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau for Mechanical Engineering) is a Rosatom nuclear engineering company in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. It was founded in December 1945 and named after Igor Afrikantov in 1998. It is the principal designer of Soviet and Russian marine nuclear reactors for both naval and civil vessels, and has nearly 4,000 employees.

Its civil marine reactor line starts with the OK-150 and OK-900 plants of the icebreaker Lenin and later icebreakers. It continues with the KLT-40 family: the KLT-40 powered the LASH carrier Sevmorput, the KLT-40M the Taymyr-class icebreakers, and the KLT-40S the floating nuclear power plant Akademik Lomonosov. The current RITM-200 is an integral PWR of 175 MWt. Two units power each Project 22220 (Arktika-class) icebreaker, and the RITM-200 is the only civil marine reactor in serial production.

OKBM's newer designs include the larger RITM-400 and the RITM-200N, a derivative for small modular reactor plants.
