About RAD Propulsion
RAD Propulsion is a UK company based in Southampton that develops electric marine propulsion and autonomy systems for commercial, defence and leisure vessels. It was set up by UK engineers and technology entrepreneurs, and according to the input data it raised GBP 4.27 million in 2024 and is opening a US office in South Carolina.
Its products are electric outboard-style drive legs with a ducted propeller and wide steering range. The RAD 40 delivers 40 kW continuous at 400 V DC, steers through ±90 degrees and weighs about 98–104 kg without batteries. The larger RAD 120 is rated at 120 kW continuous on 350–450 V with a maximum propeller speed of 5,000 rpm, and is listed on the company's website as a current product. A small tiller-steered RAD X model is marked as coming soon.
Around the drives, RAD offers the RAD Console power system, the Axon connectivity and control platform and cloud-based Insights analytics. Target vessels include RIBs, tenders, workboats, patrol and defence craft, and recreational boats.
