Schneekluth Hydrodynamik (Schneekluth Hydrodynamik Entwicklungs- und Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH) is a German developer and supplier of hydrodynamic energy-saving devices for ships, based in Dinslaken. It was established by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Schneekluth, who developed the company's main product, and has been active for more than 30 years.
The company's product is the Schneekluth Wake Equalizing Duct (WED): two half-ring ducts with a foil profile mounted on the hull ahead of the propeller, together with spoiler plates. The duct speeds up and evens out the water flowing into the propeller, which the company says reduces propeller-induced vibration by up to 50% and fuel consumption by up to 12%, with no maintenance costs and a short payback period.
About 3,000 vessels have been fitted with the WED, mainly bulk carriers, tankers, container ships and multipurpose cargo ships, as both newbuild installations and retrofits.
