Silverstream Technologies

Silverstream Technologies is a London-headquartered developer of hull air lubrication systems for commercial shipping, with offices in Southampton and Shanghai. The company was founded in 2010 and is led by founder and CEO Noah Silberschmidt. It describes itself as the market leader in hull air lubrication technology.

Its single product, the Silverstream System, creates a uniform carpet of microbubbles over the full flat bottom of a vessel to reduce frictional resistance. The company reports net fuel and emissions savings of 5–10%, depending on vessel type, verified by classification societies, HSVA, Carnival, Shell and the University of Southampton. The system is offered for newbuilds and as a retrofit, with typical dry-dock installation in about 10 days.

By July 2026 Silverstream had passed 160 installations (164 vessels) across cruise ships, container ships, LNG carriers, RoRo/RoPax vessels and PCTCs. Recent deliveries include Grimaldi's Grande Oriente and Wallenius Wilhelmsen's Arctic Tern. The company has also been selected for 18 QC-MAX LNG carriers, and it positions the technology as support for EEXI, CII, FuelEU Maritime and EU ETS compliance.
