About Steerprop
Steerprop is a Finnish manufacturer of azimuth propulsion systems based in Rauma, with more than 25 years of propulsion engineering history. It reports over 900 units delivered worldwide and says about one in three azimuth-propelled icebreakers uses its systems.
The product range covers azimuth propulsors from 800 kW to 15 MW for open water and up to 12 MW for ice-class vessels. Lines include contra-rotating propeller (CRP) propulsors of 500-16,000 kW up to Polar Class 2, pulling propulsors for cruise, ferry, icebreaking and naval ships, W-series pushing propulsors of 900-9,000 kW for tugs, workboats and offshore vessels, and drive options with mechanical Z- and L-drives or integrated permanent magnet motors. Steerprop also supplies tunnel thrusters of 500-7,000 kW and retractable thrusters of 850-3,500 kW for DP vessels, with Steerprop Care condition monitoring and lifecycle services.
On 7 September 2026 Kongsberg Maritime agreed to acquire Steerprop, subject to regulatory approvals.
