Toshiba Corporation, headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, and taken private in 2023, makes the SCiB rechargeable lithium-ion battery. SCiB uses a lithium titanium oxide (LTO) anode, which gives high safety, long cycle life, fast charging and good low-temperature performance. A next-generation SCiB Nb variant uses a niobium titanium oxide anode.

The cell range includes high-power cells (2.9 Ah and 10 Ah), high-energy cells (20, 23 and 26 Ah) and a 20Ah-HP combination cell. They are assembled into modules and packs such as the Type3-20, Type3-20HP and Type3-23 marine and industrial modules (40–45 Ah, 27.6 V nominal) and 24/48 V industrial packs. SCiB modules were the first in Japan to receive ClassNK approval for use on ships.

In marine propulsion, Toshiba supplies cells and modules to system integrators and shipyards rather than complete vessel battery systems. Damen Shipyards uses SCiB in electric ferries, and Japanese applications include the freight coaster Utashima and the hybrid boat Raicho N. Because the cells charge quickly, a ferry can recharge during a short port stop for each round trip, so a smaller battery can be installed. In October 2025 Toshiba launched the SCiB 24 V pack P25H20-3, used by Yamaha Motor on the electric sightseeing boat e-Float Terrace in Yokohama.
