Yichang Marine Diesel Engine

Yichang Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd. (YMD) is a Chinese builder of low-speed two-stroke marine engines, located in Yichang, Hubei Province. It was formerly a China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) engine works and is now part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) following the merger of the two groups.

YMD builds engines under licence. It is listed as an Everllence licensee for B&W low-speed engines and concentrates on small- and medium-bore types for bulk carriers, tankers and feeder container ships. It has also held a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries licence for Mitsubishi-UE engines, a design line now managed by Japan Engine Corporation (J-ENG). Its first UE engine, a 6UEC43LSII rated at 6,300 kW at 160 rpm, was completed in 2010 for a timber/cargo carrier being built in Fujian Province, and MHI said further production would follow.

YMD mainly supplies Chinese shipyards building small and medium merchant ships.
