Bloom Energy Server / marine fuel cell (SOFC)
SOFC power modules for ships, running on LNG-derived natural gas, biogas or hydrogen blends; ABS type-approved; chosen for a 174,000 m³ LNG carrier.
Bloom's marine fuel cell adapts its SOFC Energy Server technology for shipboard power. The 65 kW Marine Power Module has a stated electrical efficiency of 53%, rising to about 90% with waste-heat recovery. It runs on natural gas from LNG, biogas and hydrogen blends up to 50%, and ammonia has been under development. ABS type approval was reported in 2025. MOL and Samsung Heavy Industries plan a 300 kW Bloom system on a 174,000 m³ LNG carrier for 2027 delivery.
