SMR-powered container ship design
SMR-powered container ship concepts: a 15,000 TEU design with ABS AiP (2025) and a 16,000 TEU nuclear-electric propulsion JDP with ABS (2026).
HD KSOE's nuclear ship programme started with a 15,000 TEU class container ship powered by small modular reactors, unveiled in February 2025 with ABS Approval in Principle. It uses a supercritical CO2 power conversion system developed with Baker Hughes. In March 2026 HD KSOE and HD Hyundai Samho launched a joint development project with ABS on a nuclear-powered electric propulsion system for a 16,000 TEU container ship, covering basic design, electrical specifications and arrangement plans.
