Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC)

Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC), trading as ABC Engines, is a Belgian manufacturer of medium-speed engines, established in 1912 and headquartered in Ghent. The company is owned by OGEPAR, a Luxembourg holding company that acquired it in the 1980s. It is one of the few remaining independent European medium-speed engine makers.

In marine propulsion, ABC supplies main propulsion engines and auxiliary gensets for tugs, workboats, dredgers, offshore vessels and ferries. Its range covers the inline DZ series (about 864–1,768 kW), the V-configuration VDZC (12 and 16 cylinders) and the large-bore DL36 series (365 mm bore, about 3,900–10,400 kW). Dual-fuel variants and the EL23 multi-fuel engine, which combines compression-ignition liquid-fuel combustion with spark-ignited gaseous-fuel combustion, extend the portfolio towards alternative fuels. Outside shipping, ABC engines are used for land-based power generation, rail traction and special applications.

ABC is also known for its hydrogen work. In 2019 it formed BeHydro, a joint venture with CMB (now CMB.TECH), to develop dual-fuel and 100% hydrogen engines in the 0.8–2.8 MW range. BeHydro engines power the Hydrotug, and the company's 2026 news covered Japan's first hydrogen tugboat and a type approval milestone for the 100% hydrogen engine.
