HD Hyundai Electric

HD Hyundai Electric is the electrical equipment company of the HD Hyundai group, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea. It supplies HD Hyundai's shipyards and third-party builders with electrical systems for merchant ships, LNG carriers, offshore units and naval vessels.

Its marine range includes rotating machines, switchgear and energy storage. The company describes marine generators as its flagship product, with outputs up to 50,000 kVA and voltages up to 15 kV. Marine motors, including propulsion and thruster motors, go up to 34,000 kW. These machines are matched with engines from builders such as Wärtsilä, MAN and Daihatsu for propulsion and power generation. HD Hyundai Electric also makes MV and LV main switchboards, emergency switchboards, thruster starters up to 7.2 kV, group starter panels and marine distribution transformers.

For hybrid and electric ships, the company offers battery energy storage (BESS). Input data refers to this as HiBSS, a hybrid battery system for ships. The wider HD Hyundai group has been developing electric propulsion systems for large ships.
