Jastram

Jastram GmbH & Co. KG is a family-owned German manufacturer of manoeuvring and propulsion equipment based in Hamburg and run by the fourth generation of the family. It has built transverse thrusters since 1950 and describes itself as a specialist in drive and control technology for manoeuvring.

The product range comprises the RP series of rudder propellers (azimuth thrusters) from 50 to 450 kW in L- or Z-drive layouts, the BU series of fixed-pitch transverse (tunnel) thrusters from 50 to 1,200 kW, and low-noise thrusters using active and passive noise reduction. Jastram also supplies drive and control systems, engineering support and integrated logistic support. Its customers include naval and government vessels, research ships, inland vessels, ferries, workboats, cruise ships and megayachts, and it presents itself as a leader in active noise reduction for thrusters.

Note: the steering-gear business listed under this entry belongs to Jastram Engineering Ltd of North Vancouver, Canada, a privately owned Canadian company (established 1983/1989) that makes marine steering systems. Its website does not describe any link to the Hamburg company.
