TechnicAtome

TechnicAtome is the French designer of compact nuclear reactors for naval propulsion, headquartered in Aix-en-Provence. Its shareholders are the French State (through APE), the CEA and Naval Group. The company reports more than 50 years of experience designing, building and operating compact reactors, about 2,200 staff and eight sites in France. Its activities cover defence, research reactors and energy production.

TechnicAtome is prime contractor for the design and construction of the nuclear steam supply systems for French Navy submarines and carriers. It designed the K15 reactors that power the carrier Charles de Gaulle and the Triomphant- and Suffren-class submarines. For the six Barracuda (Suffren-class) attack submarines, Suffren (2020), Duguay-Trouin (2023), Tourville (2024) and De Grasse (2026) have been delivered, at an average of one every two years. The company is also working on the third-generation ballistic missile submarines (SNLE 3G).

For France's next-generation aircraft carrier (PANG), named France Libre, TechnicAtome is designing two K22 reactors, which it describes as the most powerful naval propulsion reactors ever designed in France. The realisation phase began in December 2025, with service planned for 2038.
