About The Hanshin Diesel Works,
The Hanshin Diesel Works, Ltd. is a Japanese marine engine builder headquartered in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. It specialises in low- and medium-speed four-stroke main engines for coastal merchant ships, mainly in the Japanese domestic fleet. The company cites cumulative production equivalent to more than 12 million engine horsepower.
Hanshin's core products are long-stroke, six-cylinder four-stroke engines turning slowly enough, about 200–420 rpm, to drive the propeller directly without a reduction gear, or through an integrated reversing gearbox. The LA series (LA26G to LA34G, 1,029–1,912 kW) has shipped around 370 units. The LH and LH-L series extend the range to LH46LA at 3,309 kW. Electronically controlled versions (LA32E, LH41LAE, LH46LAE) use a hydraulically actuated fuel injection pump in place of a cam, which the company says lowers fuel consumption, especially at low load. Hanshin also lists gas engines and a methanol-fuelled engine.
As a Kawasaki sub-licensee, Hanshin also builds small-bore MAN B&W two-stroke engines (L35MC, S35MC).
