About Vericor Power Systems
Vericor Power Systems is a US manufacturer of aero-derivative gas turbines for marine propulsion and industrial power, based in Greer, South Carolina. It has been wholly owned by the German aero-engine maker MTU Aero Engines since 2002. Its turbines are derived from the Lycoming T55 helicopter engine family.
The marine line consists of the TF40, ETF40B and TF50B, compact turbines of roughly 3.0-4.4 MW that weigh around 600-650 kg. Vericor says they offer much higher power for their installed weight than diesel engines, allowing higher speeds or greater payload. The turbines run on marine diesel, jet fuel, kerosene or LNG, can start at down to -50 degrees C without warm-up, and use digital engine control with remote monitoring. They can be installed singly or in side-by-side, over/under and tri-pack arrangements.
Applications include air-cushion landing craft (LCAC) for the US Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, fast patrol boats and attack craft (including Korean navy fast craft), corvettes, fast ferries and high-speed superyachts.
