J-ENG UEC low-speed two-stroke engines built under licence, 1,655–11,040 kW; licence renewed in 2026 to include ammonia.
Akasaka builds J-ENG UEC low-speed two-stroke engines under licence for cargo ships and tankers. The LSE type covers 2,000–11,040 kW at 96–167 rpm, LSH covers 1,775–10,080 kW at 85–230 rpm, LSJ covers 2,000–6,960 kW at 118–167 rpm, and LSII covers 1,655–4,530 kW at 157–215 rpm. Akasaka has been a UE licensee since 1960. The licence renewal in 2026 added ammonia-fuelled engines, and methanol and hydrogen licences are reported as pending.
