For commercial ships, GE Vernova supplies full electric power and propulsion packages: induction and permanent-magnet motors and generators, IGBT-based power electronics, and low- or medium-voltage distribution at up to 13.8 kV. Systems are 1–40 MW and can be scaled to 120 MW. The company says electric and podded propulsion can improve fuel efficiency by up to 10%. SeaGreen options include shaft power take-off for LNG carriers and energy storage for hybrid retrofits.
