Propeller boss cap with small FRP blades that break up the hub vortex; about 2.8% fuel saving in retrofit trials, according to Nakashima.
The ECO-Cap replaces a conventional propeller cap with a copper-alloy cap carrying several small, thin fibre-reinforced plastic blades. The blades break up the hub vortex behind the propeller and produce positive pressure, which adds thrust. Nakashima reports efficiency gains of about 1.0–1.3% in model tests and about 2.8% lower fuel consumption in retrofit trials on ships.
