Lightweight, autonomous, stowable rigid wingsail for retrofit on bulkers and tankers; validated in 2024–25 sea trials.
FastRig is an autonomous rigid wingsail that can be lowered and stowed, designed for retrofit on bulk carriers and tankers without dry-docking or crew changes. It is built in the UK from recyclable materials. A demonstrator on MV Pacific Grebe was installed and removed dockside within eight weeks, and ITTC-protocol sea trials validated its performance. SGS quotes up to 40% annual fuel and emissions savings, depending on route.
