Toyota 3rd Generation Fuel Cell System

Announced in February 2025, Toyota's third-generation fuel cell system is intended for commercial and passenger vehicles and for general-purpose uses including stationary generators, rail and ships. Toyota states that durability is twice that of the previous generation, comparable to diesel engines and designed to be maintenance-free, that fuel efficiency is 1.2 times higher (about 20% more range) and that costs are significantly reduced. Market introduction is planned for 2026 or later in Japan, Europe, North America and China.
