Electric Voith Schneider Propeller (eVSP)
VSP with a directly integrated gearless permanent-magnet motor from the Voith Inline Thruster; eight-bladed version on RV Meteor IV.
The eVSP combines the Voith Schneider Propeller with the permanent-magnet electric motor of the Voith Inline Thruster, integrated directly without gears. Voith describes it as compact and energy-efficient, with high torque and fast response. An eight-bladed eVSP will enter service on the German research vessel Meteor IV, expected in 2026, and the offshore service vessel Edda Wind is also fitted with eVSPs.
