Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce plc is a UK power systems group headquartered in London. In naval propulsion it offers marine gas turbines, generator sets, diesel engines (through its Power Systems business, mtu), electrical automation and control, and through-life support.

Its flagship naval product is the MT30. This aero-derivative gas turbine from the Trent family is rated at 36 or 40 MW and powers the Royal Navy's Queen Elizabeth-class carriers and Type 26 frigates. It is also used in the US Navy's Freedom-class LCS and DDG-1000, Korean Daegu- and Ulsan-class frigates, the Italian LHD Trieste and Japan's Mogami-class frigates. The smaller MT7, of up to 4.6 MW, shares its core with the AE 1107C-Liberty engine and is used on US Navy air-cushion landing craft. Rolls-Royce also offers AG9160 and AG9140 gas turbine generator sets.

Rolls-Royce Submarines, based in Derby, is the sole designer and manufacturer of the UK's naval nuclear propulsion plant. It has powered every Royal Navy attack submarine since HMS Valiant (1963). Its PWR3 plant is at the centre of the Dreadnought programme, and it will power the SSN-AUKUS submarines. The Derby site is being expanded to support UK and Australian needs.
