Azimuth thrusters
Veth Propulsion
Dutch maker of azimuth thrusters (Z-, L- and contra-rotating drives) and Veth Jet bow thrusters; part of Twin Disc since 2018.
About Veth Propulsion
Veth Propulsion is a Dutch thruster manufacturer headquartered in Papendrecht. It was founded in 1951 by Cornelis Veth and marks its 75th anniversary in 2026. Twin Disc, Inc. acquired the company in 2018, and it now operates as Veth Propulsion by Twin Disc. Besides thrusters, it supplies bespoke propulsion packages including diesel engines and generator sets, together with control systems, service and nautical training.
The azimuth programme includes Z-drives and L-drives from the VL-50 (61 kW) up to the VZ/VL-1800 (2,350 kW, 2,600 mm propeller). The electric L-drive has a vertically mounted motor, and the Integrated L-Drive builds the motor into the unit. The STREAMLINE-CRP is a contra-rotating azimuth thruster, and the ELITE series is aimed at yachts. Ice-class, shallow-draft, deck-mounted, retractable and swing-out versions are also available.
For manoeuvring, the Veth Jet grid-type bow thruster, introduced in 1970, has sold more than 1,400 units. It is a standard fit on many European inland vessels and is joined by the Steering Grid, Compact Jet, Compact Grid and conventional tunnel thrusters. Customers include inland shipping, ferries, offshore, dredging and superyachts.
