Rolls-Royce Power Systems (mtu)

Rolls-Royce Power Systems, based in Friedrichshafen, Germany, is the Rolls-Royce business unit behind the mtu brand. mtu has more than 110 years of customer history. It supplies drive, propulsion and power-generation systems and is focused on lower-emission and climate-neutral solutions.

In marine, mtu is a leading supplier of high-speed diesel engines for superyachts, fast ferries, workboats, offshore vessels and naval ships. The 2024 marine solution guide lists four families: Series 2000 (720–1,939 kW, 8V–16V), Series 4000 (746–3,200 kW, 8V–20V, with workboat ratings up to 4,300 kW), Series 1163 (4,800–7,400 kW) and Series 8000 (7,280–10,000 kW). More than 66,000 Series 4000 engines have been sold. IMO Tier III compliance is achieved with SCR systems, and newer engines such as the 12V2000 M96Z are approved for HVO. The 12V2000 M96Z, rated at 1,634 kW, is due for fast yachts and patrol boats in 2026.

mtu also supplies modular Hybrid PropulsionPacks, and complete naval propulsion plants for CODAD and CODAG arrangements on frigates, corvettes and patrol vessels. Its mtu NautIQ automation family covers alarm, monitoring and control systems, propulsion control, integrated bridge systems and naval integrated platform management.
