About

Soundown is based in Salem, Massachusetts, with a marine sales office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In 1984 Joseph Smullin, now president, joined his scientific consulting practice J&A Enterprises with the materials manufacturing company formed by Dick Cleary, and later acquired Soundown.

Smullin studied naval architecture at MIT and worked on ship quieting projects for the US Navy, an approach the company applies to its products. The site reports more than 30 years of experience with builders of pleasure boats, yachts, commercial vessels and combat craft.

From its marine base the company has expanded into architectural, industrial and medical noise control. The yacht Cakewalk is cited as a reference for its noise reduction technology.
