WinGD

WinGD (Winterthur Gas & Diesel) is a Swiss designer and licensor of low-speed two-stroke marine engines, headquartered in Winterthur and owned by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). It is the second-largest two-stroke engine designer. Its engines are built under licence by engine builders in China, South Korea and Japan, including Mitsui E&S at Tamano. They power deep-sea merchant ships such as LNG carriers, container ships, tankers and bulk carriers.

The current programme covers bores of 52 to 92 cm. The X diesel engines run on HFO, VLSFO, MGO and biofuels. The X-DF low-pressure dual-fuel engines, in service since 2016, are widely used on LNG carriers and large container ships. X-DF-M engines run on methanol and ethanol and include the X92DF-M, the largest methanol-fuelled engine. X-DF-A engines burn ammonia, and X-DF-P engines burn LPG. In June 2026 an X52DF-A powered EXMAR's ANTWERPEN, described as the world's first ocean-going ammonia-fuelled vessel, and WinGD reports about 40 further X-DF-A orders.

WinGD has also launched X-DF-HP, a high-pressure LNG dual-fuel engine in 82 and 92 cm bores for ultra-large container ships, with first deliveries expected in 2028. It plans ethanol-fuelled two-stroke deliveries from 2027.
