Niigata 28AHX-DF / 28ADF
28 cm-bore dual-fuel engines: LNG dual-fuel 28AHX-DF for tugs and coastal ships, and the ammonia dual-fuel 28ADF developed in 2024.
The 28AHX-DF is the dual-fuel version of the Niigata 28AHX, running on LNG or diesel and used in LNG-fuelled tugs and coastal ships. Building on this platform, IHI Power Systems developed the 28ADF ammonia dual-fuel engine in 2024; its ammonia engine work received a top award at the CIMAC Congress 2025, with emissions reductions of up to 95% claimed.
