SCHOTTEL LE-Drive / electric-driven azimuth propulsors
Embedded L-drive azimuth units with a free choice of vertically mounted electric motor, for diesel-electric and battery vessels.
The SCHOTTEL LE-Drive, launched in April 2021, is an embedded L-drive for electric propulsion. The electric motor, which can come from different makers, is mounted vertically on the unit, so no upper gearbox is needed. SCHOTTEL says this improves mechanical efficiency by about 3%. It is available as a RudderPropeller (SRP) for strong bollard pull and as an EcoPeller (SRE) for higher speeds, both with optional CP propellers, and has an installation height comparable to Z-drives.
