SCHOTTEL

SCHOTTEL is a family-owned German propulsion manufacturer founded in 1921 and headquartered in Spay on the Rhine, with production in Dörth and Wismar. It invented the RudderPropeller in 1950 and has installed more than 17,000 units worldwide. Its portfolio of more than nine series covers propulsion and manoeuvring systems from 50 to 30,000 kW, for tugs, ferries, offshore vessels, inland craft, naval and research ships, and yachts.

The azimuth range includes the SRP RudderPropeller (190–6,200 kW), the efficiency-optimised SRE EcoPeller (up to 3,900 kW), the STP TwinPropeller, the SRP-R retractable RudderPropeller, and the SPJ PumpJet for shallow water. Manoeuvring products include the STT TransverseThruster (90–3,500 kW, FP or CP) and the electric SRT RimThruster. The SCP ControllablePropeller supplies shaft-line CPP systems, and SCHOTTEL Automation Systems provide controls, including PropControl 4, introduced in 2026.

For electric and hybrid ships, SCHOTTEL offers the LE-Drive, an L-drive with a free choice of vertically mounted electric motor, launched in 2021. It also offers the SYDRIVE-E hybrid-electric and SYDRIVE-M hybrid-mechanical drives. In 2026 the company set up a subsidiary in India and won rudderpropeller orders for LNG bunkering vessels and escort tugs.
