About

MER Equipment was founded in 1964 in Ballard, Seattle, as Marine Engine Repair. Ivan Fox, then in charge of Alaska salmon production for New England Fish Co., and his port engineer Larry Schusted opened the shop to rebuild marine engines and equipment damaged by the Alaska earthquake and tsunami of that year, and it became a parts and engine supplier to the Alaska fishing and workboat fleets.

In the early 1970s MER introduced Isuzu diesel engines to the west coast and went on to develop generator and propulsion packages for the fishing fleet. Its generators are now sold under the BOLLARD name.

The company is family owned and is carried on by the children and grandchildren of the founder, a family of fishermen and workboat owners whose stated mission is to support the workboat industry. MER Equipment is located at 2400 West Commodore Way in Seattle, Washington.
