About

The company traces its history to 1958, when Harold Johnson established Alaska Marine Sales and Service in Anchorage, Alaska. Land-based generator sets were added to supply prime power in remote, off-grid areas, and in the early 1960s the company began packaging Lister diesels with Lima generators.

The Northern Lights trade name was coined in the late 1960s, when the company was renamed Alaska Marine & Equipment. It supplied unattended cold weather power systems for rural Alaska and for communication sites along the Alaska Pipeline. In the early 1980s it began designing and manufacturing propulsion engines and marine generator sets, and in the 1990s its generators became established on large yachts.

Today Northern Lights, Inc. lists a corporate office, regional offices for the Southeast, Northeast and Gulf, and an Anchorage office. Its manufacturing is certified by LRQA and its service dealers are factory trained.
