TerraPower was founded by Bill Gates and a group of like-minded people who decided that the private sector needed to act in developing advanced nuclear energy. Bill Gates is Chairman of the Board and Chris Levesque is President and CEO.
The company is building its first Natrium plant in Wyoming through a public-private partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program (ARDP), which authorizes a 50/50 cost share of up to $2 billion for the project. The site reports that ground has been broken on the plant.
Alongside energy, the TerraPower Isotopes business works on radioisotopes for medical use, and the leadership team includes a Head of TerraPower UK.
