About

Westerbeke Corporation was founded in 1937 by John H. Westerbeke Sr. to develop diesel engines and generators. By 1938 the company was pioneering marine use of the Detroit Diesel 6-71, and in 1959 it began customizing Perkins engine blocks for marine applications, opening a market for small auxiliary diesels among sailors.

In the 1980s Westerbeke introduced a line of compact, lightweight and quiet marine generators, and in 2005 it offered the first reduced carbon monoxide EFI gasoline generator for the marine market. The company has also built generators for specialized non-marine uses; in 2008 its industrial generators were selected by the U.S. Navy to power a floating loading dock.

Westerbeke is located in the Myles Standish Industrial Park in Taunton, Massachusetts, USA, and sells and services its products through master distributors and dealers worldwide.
