Description

Maximize the efficiency of your compressed air installation

Save on energy consumption and enjoy maximum uptime by analyzing, monitoring and optimizing your compressor room

Why optimize your compressed air installation?

Your compressed air system is a big energy consumer. Improve its efficiency, and your operational costs and CO2 footprint will plummet. As a bonus, you get more reliability, machine availability and minimal downtime. Atlas Copco’s approach focuses on reducing the overall energy bill, which means that we look through your compressed air installation, from compressed air generation to the distribution network and demand.

Save energy

Analyzing, optimizing and monitoring your compressed air system will enable you to reduce energy consumption.

Maximum uptime

Using the latest monitoring and control technologies ensures system stability and maximum uptime.

Reduce carbon footprint

Optimizing the energy efficiency of your compressed air system is an important step in achieving your sustainability goals and meeting the ISO 50001 standard.

Three steps to optimize your compressed air system

Let our experts get to work and unlock the savings potential of your full compressed air network!

1. Explore whether your compressed air system is still cost-efficient

Understand your compressed air system

With AIRScan, we inspect your entire air system, from the compressors via the air net to the demand side. It reveals any weak spots in your installation, identifies the best solutions to fix these weaknesses, and provides accurate savings calculations for each of these solutions.

2. Activate the optimization steps that benefit you the most

Empowered by the insights from the AIRScan report and guided by expert support from Atlas Copco, you can start implementing the solutions that will make a real difference.

Repair compressed air leaks

Did you know that up to 20% of the energy consumption in your compressed air system could be lost to air leaks? That’s a lot of money you are blowing away.

Tighten your pressure band

Lowering the system pressure is a great way to save energy. Matching the air demand within a narrow pressure band makes all the difference.

In a multiple compressor installation, compressor control systems contribute to a more accurate pressure output and reduced energy consumption. Upgrading equipment to our latest technologies invariably results in efficiency improvements.

Recover thermal energy Air compression generates heat, which is usually released into the atmosphere via the cooling system. However, this energy can be captured and used for workspace heating, hot water, or industrial processes. With Energy Recovery, temperatures can be raised up to 90°C/194°F. If you need higher temperatures, then a Heat Pump is the right choice for you. Your compressor releases energy. Don’t let it go to waste!

3. Secure your savings

Monitor your compressed air installation

SMARTLINK enables you to follow up on the performance and service status of all the equipment in your air compressor room. Detailed reports help you keep track of your energy efficiency, also allowing Energy Management according to ISO 50001.

SMART AIRnet monitors various parameters, such as flow pressure and humidity at critical locations to safeguard the quality of your compressed air network.

An Air Quality Plan captures all critical air quality parameters and processed via SMARTLINK.

How other customers have achieved sustainable savings

EV Battery manufacturer saves €60 000 annually thanks to Extender+

A local manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles used an operator on site to manually operate the dryers and valves, which was not only inefficient but also posed a safety risk. Therefore the customer contacted Atlas Copco.

Corrugated sheets manufacturer saves €20 000 per year by recovering compressor heat

A fiber cement profiled sheets manufacturer wanted to reduce the environmental impact and costs of their gas consumption. The customer contacted Atlas Copco to investigate if the waste heat from the screw compressor could be recovered and reused...

How to reduce operating costs with a compressor audit

Energy consumption accounts for up to 70% of the lifecycle cost of a compressed air installation. With the increase and the general uncertainty about energy prices it’s better to lower consumption as soon as possible.

Central air compressor controls explained - A quick guide

Many operations use more than one compressor. In many cases, having multiple smaller compressors will get the job done better and more efficiently than one large unit. In those cases, you can benefit from central control.

Frequently asked questions

Atlas Copco’s approach focuses on reducing the overall energy bill, which means that we look through your compressed air installation, from compressed air generation to the distribution network and demand. We pinpoint the areas where potential savings can be made. We then advise the appropriate actions to optimize the situation. Improving the energy efficiency of your compressed air installation can save you a lot of money.

Based on the utilization of your compressors and the requirement of thermal energy in your operations, Atlas Copco can determine your possible savings with the Energy Saving Potential Calculator. It shows you how much waste heat you can recover and how much you can save on your total energy bill. Up to 90% of the heat generated by a compressor can be recovered or reused. Our skilled energy audit engineers carry out an air system energy audit with expertise in identifying areas of loss or inefficiencies within your compressed air system. A detailed report highlights the inefficiencies and provides proposals on how to optimize the performance and energy consumption of your installation. A typical AIRScan identifies tangible measures that results in 25-30% energy savings and a significant amount of CO2 reductions. You run the risk of missing out on a significant reduction of your energy consumption by not having your installation audited by our specialists.

Without a central compressor control system, the load/unload pressure of each compressor can be set to react to changes in air demand. If the system pressure drops, an additional compressor will switch to loaded running. However, the sequence will always be the same, and the advantages of a VSD are not fully put to use. The result: higher pressures than required, too much unloaded running and… a steep energy bill. Find out how our central control system helps you save money.
